Overview

This section offers session facilitators a range of considerations, advices and opinions for structuring and running their workshops. These are based on extensive feedback from a broad sampling of nonprofit/NGO technology events; the following are reflections and elaborations on facilitating the various session formats. These comments are based on extensive experience and feedback from a broad sampling of nonprofit/NGO technology events in the US, Europe and Africa.

Break-Out Sessions are the heart of event sharing and interaction. Once an initial sense of community has been established by morning circle and other group exercises, break-out sessions allow for rich collaboration between specific participants.

Session Design Guidelines are available to help guide facilitators in the process of thinking through and developing their sessions.

Lectures and Presentations It is not the intent of this guide to document lecture and panel techniques and best practices. That said, suggestions are provided based on experiences organizing nonprofit technology events, in order to maximize value for participants.
